Session Description:

Exception handling errors can lead to financial and reputational loss. Understand the rules and ramifications behind return reason codes in must attend session.

Exception handling can seem like a challenge if you're new to the world of ACH.  This session will review the return process flow from the RDFI perspective, including the most common return reason codes, and when they should be used.  It will also cover your obligations upon receiving prenotes and what steps to take when you receive a Death Notification Entry (DNE). Understanding the liabilities and responsibilities of properly handling returns, prenotes, and DNEs will also assist in potentially avoiding losses due to untimely returns or rules violations due to improper return codes.

Attendees will leave the session with an understanding of:

  1. An overview of the various return reason codes;
  2. Prenotifications and DNEs;
  3. Related responsibilities and liabilities.
