ACH authorizations are the foundation of transactions. Requirements vary by Standard Entry Class Code (SEC) and are critical to prove valid authorization for transactions, particularly with ACH debits. In addition to the ACH Rules, consumer protection laws apply, creating the need to ensure authorization requirements meet multiple obligations. Requirements even differ for consumer vs. corporate transactions. Mere possession of an authorization form is insufficient to prove true approval for transfers, such as forgeries, which invalidates the authorization.
In this session, attendees will:
• Review requirements consistent with applicable federal consumer protection laws
• Record ACH authorization requirements in the ACH Rules book
• Identify unique authorization requirements
• Document best practices
