Person-to-Person (P2P) payments are happening all around us. From online financial institution offerings to services like CashApp, Venmo, PayPal, and more, consumers are leveraging these platforms to easily send money to one another without ever needing to have the receiving person's bank account information. This seamless experience means that P2P transactions have become engrained in our societal behavior and changed how we pay one another. Consider some everyday use cases for P2P, such as being out to lunch and needing to split the check. Even small business owners, such as cleaners, landscapers, handypersons, and others, also leverage P2P making payment for services quick and easy.

A challenge in navigating P2P is that not all service platforms are ones that financial institutions can control. In this session, NEACH will explore the anatomy of P2P payments by examining the setup process, associated participants, network and transaction process flows, and the final settlement process. We will also examine applicable rules and regulations related to requirements, agreements, and operational processes. In addition, this session will navigate through potential processing issues and challenges. Finally, we will inform attendees of the risks and rewards associated with offering P2P services and help organizations formulate plans to effectively leverage a P2P service offering.
