Offering ACH Origination services to businesses can provide a financial institution with many benefits, including the ability to onboard and retain healthy business relationships. As with most rewards, there is risk associated with this service offering. Offering ACH Origination services should be balanced by having an effective risk management program to help the organization mitigate the risks associated with ACH Origination.
One of the best risk mitigation strategies with ACH Origination involves the onboarding process to grant access to these higher-risk services. The factors included in this process include application, prescreening, formal underwriting/review and establishment of exposure limits, and finalization of the agreement, set up, and initial training. Ensuring Originators have exposure limits that are appropriately established for ACH Origination functionality is a critical part of this process. This session will explore the importance and associated requirements for establishing, monitoring, and reviewing exposure limits for Originators at ODFIs. This session will also examine the implications of Same-Day ACH and the need to evaluate exposure for Same-Day ACH separately. Lastly, this session will explore the reporting requirements for an ODFI associated with having Originators and Third-Party Senders.
