Businesses need money to stay viable and grow. Having sufficient funds to cover obligations and invest in future growth is a major part of the role of treasury professionals. Treasury areas report through finance structure and are responsible for the way a company manages its cash flows. Often, the treasury manager is involved in the logistics of these functions by managing banking relationships, overseeing the use of funds, and even managing short- and long-term investments. As such, a foundational element of business treasury management centers around the need for proper cash flow management.

In this session, we aim to increase students’ understanding of this critical concept by exploring the concept of cash flow management. We start by first defining what we mean when we cash flows. We next explore the role of accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) and their impacts to money management. We end by examining the role payments in the process and how they intersect into company cash flows.
