How well do you know Regulation J? It may not be one of those regulations that’s top of mind, but you might be surprised by the extent to which Regulation J influences how you process checks and wire transfers. If your institution clears checks through the Federal Reserve, uses the Fedwire service to transfer funds, and/or has implemented FedNow, you should be familiar with the Subpart of Regulation J that provides the legal framework for the service(s) you use. Subpart A, in conjunction with Operating Circular 3 covers the collection of checks and other items; Subpart B, in conjunction with Operating Circular 6 covers funds transfers through Fedwire; and Subpart C, in conjunction with Operating Circular 8 covers funds transfers through FedNow. In this session, we’ll discuss each Subpart of Regulation J and how they impact your institution’s relationship with the Federal Reserve.

• Recognize how Regulation J governs the relationship between the Federal Reserve and financial institutions
• Develop an understanding of which subparts of Regulation J apply to their institution
• Identify how to comply with the requirements of Regulation J
