Session Description:

An ACH entry may trigger an institution’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML) program. If the funds are part of a fraud scheme, including unwitting money mules, AML remedial actions to “detect, prevent and report” kick in, even if the transaction posted by routing number and account number is allowed under the ACH Rules.

This course is designed to create a common language and understanding between Operations, Legal, and the Bank Secrecy Officer regarding every institution’s obligations for balancing ACH and AML responsibilities.

Using actual case studies, participants will explore how transactions that automatically post to an account can trigger an AML investigation, including reporting, account remedial actions, and more, to remain in compliance with law.

Attendees will:

  • Compare transaction posting via ACH with AML obligations;
  • Categorize money mules;
  • Examine how transactions can trigger an institutions’ AML responsibilities;
  • Document remedial actions under BSA, including account handling & future transactions;
  • Record corrective actions, including prosecution, for non-compliance;
  • Develop Action Items.
