NEACH is excited to offer a three-part series that dives into the ins and outs of checks. In this session, Part 3 of the series, we explore Remote Deposit Capture: Risks and Benefits.
Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) is nothing new in the industry. However, did you know that RDC refers to more than just business deposits? Instead, RDC refers to an entire suite of services for transmitting and processing check images electronically. RDC is split into offerings geared toward consumers and businesses at many financial institutions. Consumer and business offerings differ in the associated requirements that may apply. For instance, business RDC is generally built into Treasury Management services, and the onboarding process may be more rigorous than the consumer offering. In addition, in today’s environment, there are now mobile and desktop solutions that each operate differently and expose different kinds of risk to an organization that offers them to its account holders.
However complex or straightforward an institution’s offering may be, RDC services come with both benefits and risks alike. In this session, NEACH explores these benefits, such as customer satisfaction and competitiveness, describes the risks, such as losses and legal issues, and recommends mitigation tactics and practices related to setup, policy, and disclosure. Come join us to learn more about the risks, mitigations, and benefits of offering RDC.
At the end of this session, learners will be able to:
• Recognize the importance of developing explicit policies, procedures, and agreements for RDC services
• Assess the risks and potential challenges of offering RDC
• Examine mitigation techniques to help minimize risk to the financial institution
