Understanding when, how, and why to use specific ACH Entry types is a critical function for any participating depository financial institutions. ACH Entries are not all the same. Some entries are used for the purpose of crediting Receivers, others are used to debit them, and yet others are used for non-monetary purposes. Additionally, Entries may be used for consumer and business Receivers. Many of these requirements relate to processing, returns, and authorization, Standard Entry Class Codes (SECs) are the coding mechanism that accomplishes what the ACH Entries are and how they must be used.
